Northwest Avenue Apartment Complex

Element provided a site-wide infiltration assessment for design of buried infiltration facilities and pervious pavements. The proposed redevelopment included removal of past structures, and construction of three multi-family townhome buildings with on-site parking. After working closely with the civil engineer to target potential stormwater facility locations and depths, Element reviewed prior drilling data and used test pit excavations to assess and sample a complicated sequence of glacial outwash and fine deposits. Due to space limitations from the dense layout, a creative stormwater design approach was needed. Element provided the designer with detailed subsurface information and guidance on options for infiltration depths with corresponding rates. We continued to consult with the engineer as the design was modified and reviewed, and performed a simplified assessment of groundwater mounding potential. Element also completed a review of local coal mine hazard to address City of Bellingham critical area requirements.
